Wallets, Accenture.
Accenture Recognise needed a solution to address the limitations of their employee recognition program. Large organizations like Accenture often face challenges in managing recognition budgets across various regions, teams, and departments. To solve this, we created a Wallets feature: a sub-budgeting system allowing managers to localize and customize spending for employee recognition. This initiative aimed to provide flexibility while empowering lower-level managers to engage their teams effectively.
My responsibilities
Quantitative Research
Analyzed internal Accenture reports on recognition spending inefficiencies, revealing a 50% gap between budget allocation and actual engagement.
Qualitative Research
Interviewed 10 managers across different regions and levels to understand their struggles with recognition programs. We also interviewed HR and finance teams to uncover pain points in budget approval and tracking.
Affinity Mapping
Grouped insights from interviews and internal reports to identify key themes, such as lack of control, difficulty in personalizing recognition programs, and frustration with the approval process.
Ideation Stage
Mapped out user flows for:
Creating a custom program and allocating sub-budgets.
Adjusting or managing existing programs.
Approving requests and tracking spending in real-time.
Storyboarding
Visualized the journey of a manager logging into the system, creating a custom program for a specific team, and tracking its performance over time. This helped identify pain points and prioritize solutions.
Prototyping
Sketching
Created initial sketches to visualize the interface for budget creation, sub-wallet management, and reporting.
Low-Fi Prototype
Built wireframes focusing on the core functionalities:
Adding sub-wallets.
Budget allocation.
Real-time tracking dashboard.
Hi-Fi Prototype
Designed an interactive prototype with a clean, intuitive interface, emphasizing simplicity and clarity for managers at all levels.
User testing
Round 1: Tested the low-fi prototype with 6 Accenture managers. Feedback highlighted the need for clearer instructions on wallet setup and tracking tools.
Iteration: Added onboarding guides and improved the dashboard layout to focus on key metrics.
Round 2: Tested the hi-fi prototype with 5 additional managers. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with minor adjustments made to the budget allocation flow.
Pain points & solution
Pain
The lack of flexibility in managing recognition budgets hindered team managers' ability to tailor programs to their teams' needs. This created dissatisfaction and reduced engagement with the recognition system.
Solution
We developed a Wallets feature that enables the creation of sub-budgets managed by lower-level managers. The solution included:
Custom Program Creation: Empowering managers to allocate budgets tailored to specific teams or initiatives.
Custom Program Management: Allowing real-time tracking, adjustments, and approvals.
Onboarding Guides: Helping users understand the new features and start creating and managing wallets with ease.
Design System Components
Had to design cards and a date picker components for the deisgn system to ensure the scalability of the design.
